Now’s The Day And Now’s The Hour.

As we develop our souls in divine love, we need to support the changes occurring at a soul level by refusing to indulge our material mind in thoughts that are contrary to the loving state we aspire to.

Since we have free will, God will not change the thoughts that we choose to have. Because our minds are strong, those thoughts can easily overpower the tender shoots of burgeoning love growing in our souls. Our thought habits, which are heavily influenced from birth by the often hostile and controlling environment around us, are our responsibility, not God’s. Since our patterns of thought become normalised, it can come as a shock to realise just how far from loving we can be at times. We may, for example, feel justified when we are intolerant of those we dislike – rather than feeling compassion for them as fallible human beings just like us.

We need to root out this harmful mental behaviour in order to support the path we’ve chosen. The battle against our mind’s ingrained habits can seem daunting. In my case, it was a long time before I properly took heed of this advice and consciously tried to curb the detrimental tendencies of my mind. I wish I had acted sooner. The words “now’s the day and now’s the hour” come to mind as I write this – a reminder to remain vigilant of our thoughts at all times until the soul finally comes into ascendancy over the mind.

In addition to divine love, we should pray for help in making wise choices in our thoughts and actions so they become compatible with our spiritual ambitions. We also need to reach out to those around us who may be unaware of divine love so that they too can find salvation from the pitfalls of a difficult human existence on earth.
